Rotary Club of Nagapattinam has enthusiastically came forward to sponsor this club.  Rotary Club of Karaikal was admitted into Rotary International and became part of the then undivided Rotary District of 298.

The town of Karaikal is situated in the Cauvery delta and lies in the golden triangle of three religious pilgrimage centers of Thirunallar in the west and Nagore and Velankanni in the south.  In the north is the Danish fort town of Tranquebar and in the east rumbles the Bay of Bengal.

The club has the unique distinction of having had amongst its members three chief ministers, two legislative assembly speakers, a judge, a mayor, several ministers and members of state legislature and municipal councils, besides top echelons of Rotary Society.

Ever since its inception, the Rotary Club of Karaikal has acted as a catalyst to work with the government in its welfare programs for the benefit of society, country and the world.

A major community service project worth mention here is the Free Special Health Camp organised on December 24, 1973.  In this mega health camp people with various medical problems were examined and proper counseling and treatments were given:

The development of Karaikal  beach area is a major on- going project undertaken by Rotary Club of Karaikal.  This massive venture is the brain-child of the late Rtn.PP.S.Ameerudeen who had contributed his wisdom and wealth towards the creation of a landmark of Rotary Park, Children's Playground, Nila Mutram, Drinking-Water Tank, Rain-and Sun Shelters and Sit-Outs. The project has begun in 1987.and is still going on.

Another important ongoing project is an educational assistance progrmme, called "Solidarite' France-Tamilnadu" (SFT), created and financed by a group of French philanthropic friends of Rotary Club of Karaikal, under the chairmanship of the late benevolent Monsieur Christian Duperrin of France.

Under this scheme, students have so far benefited and an amount of Rs.  disbursed up-to-date.  This project was started during the Rotary year 1997-1998

The club had a great image boost during the Rotary year 2001-2002 when its membership soared from 34 to 54, and increase of about 59%. This is the highest membership development in the club's history.

Another welfare programme is financial assistance of Rs.25,000/- given every year to a deserving poor cancer patient for medical treatment.  This amount is from the proceeds of an endowment called "LIAQUAT ALI MEMORIAL FATHIMA AMEERUDEEN CANCER RELIEF FUND"which was created by the late Rtn.PP.S.Ameerudeen.

In the drive towards the upilftement of education, our club has carried out a matching grant project for Karaikal Ammaiyar High School to the tune of US $ 18,920 (Rs.7,75,720) with help of R.I.District 6000 of U.S.A.

By this matching Grant, drinking water facilities, toilets, furniture, laboratory and office equipments were provided.

The highlight of Rotary year 2003-2004 is the Mega Medical Clinic, named “ROTAPLAST –KARAIKAL MISSION 2004” carried out by the Rotary Club of Karaikal, where by a team of eminent plastic surgeons of world renowned Rotaplast International Inc. San Fransisco, USA have descended upon Karaikal and performed surgeries on 116 children youth and adults and repaired and corrected cleft lips, palate anomalies and facial burn injuries.
